Cranial Cruciate Repair
Your pet has undergone general anesthesia which requires an endotracheal tube to be inserted in his/her throat. Some irritation can occur. Coughing and gagging may result. This should resolve itself in a day or so. If coughing persists beyond 1-3 days, please call our office.
It is very important to follow the doctor’s instructions, as closely as possible, following knee surgery.
- Crating, or crate-like confinement is ABSOLUTELY necessary until released by the doctor (approximately 3-6 weeks). NO RUNNING OR JUMPING IS ALLOWED and only 2 to 3 SHORT leash walks per day, for elimination, are allowed.
- If a bandage was applied, check bandage daily for wear and tear or exposure of incision. Make sure paw and toes are warm and not swollen. If they are cold or swollen, call our office IMMEDIATELY.
- Give all medicine, as directed, for the length of time prescribed. If any side effects are noticed, discontinue use and contact our office immediately.
Dysphoria may occur from the fentanyl patch the first 24 to 48 hours. This is characterized by agitation or constant whining. This can be very traumatizing to the owner. If you think this is happening, please call our office.
Please make an appointment, with our receptionist, for a recheck in 7-10 days, or as specified by Dr. Gruda. If you have ANY concerns before that time, please call our office.
There is not a charge for recheck exams. However, there will be a charge if a new bandage is applied, x-rays taken or additional medicine is prescribed.
Please don’t hesitate to call our office with any questions or concerns.
