Routine Well care exam at Gruda Veterinary Hospital, Santa Fe, New Mexico

At Gruda Veterinary Hospital we offer a wide range of services to help keep your pet healthy and happy. We provide a yearly wellness exam in order to rule out any problems early on. By practicing preventative care we hope to eliminate any unnecessary pain or illness your pet may experience. Not all patients need the same vaccine protocol. We work with you to recommend the safest and most practical vaccine program for your pet based on the environment and different exposures they experience.

Canine Wellness Care

Puppy Wellness Care:

A puppy wellness program is recommended for your puppy when he or she is 8 weeks of age to 16 weeks of age. Included in this care is a series of examinations and vaccinations including rabies, distemper, and parvo virus. In addition, your puppy may be tested for parasites and/or be treated prophylactically for the most common intestinal worms in puppies. We also help make recommendations about obedience, nutrition, flea and tick control, heartworm prevention, spaying or neutering and house training.

Adult Dog Wellness Care:

An exam is recommended once yearly for your pet to help detect and treat any disease processes early on. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatments can result in your companion living a longer healthier life. Vaccines will be given according to your dog’s previous vaccine schedule and life stage. Yearly heartworm testing and prevention is recommended for our area. We also evaluate fecal samples occasionally to make sure your pet has not contracted parasites from the environment.

Senior Canine Wellness Care:

As dogs age they may need to have a more thorough examination that includes blood tests and other lab testing in addition to their standard annual examination and vaccinations. Arthritis and other ailments could also require x-rays, ultrasonography, or other specialized diagnostic equipment to allow us to appropriately diagnose and treat any disease process or painful condition your dog may be experiencing. These tests can help us not only extend your dogs life, but also give them a better quality of life in their golden years.

Feline Wellness Care:

We want to provide you with the best medical care for your feline companion.

Wellness exams for all cats are very important. More frequent vet visits may be required for seniors and geriatrics, and for cats with medical and behavioral conditions.

While cats are healthier indoors overall, it’s a mistake to believe that indoor cats don’t get sick. Cats are skilled at masking illness. Sometimes the only early signs of illness may be discovered during a veterinary exam; for example, an irregular heartbeat or an abnormality felt while examining the abdomen or pain in the lower back. All of these conditions and many more can be hidden from their loving owners. Early diagnosis during an annual exam usually improves the prognosis, lessens the cat’s suffering and pain, and, on average, costs owners less money.

Kitten Wellness Care:

A kitten wellness program is recommended for your kitten when he or she is 8 weeks to 16 weeks of age. Included in this care is a series of examinations and vaccinations that may include FVRCP, Leukemia, and Rabies. In addition, your kitten may be tested for parasites and/or be treated prophylactically for the most common intestinal worms in kittens. We will also help make recommendations about nutrition, flea and tick control, spaying/neutering and any questions you may have.

Adult Feline Wellness Care:

An exam is recommended once yearly for your cat to help detect and treat any disease processes early on. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatments can result in your companion living a longer healthier life. Vaccines will be given according to your cat’s previous vaccine schedule, environment, and life stage. Spaying/Neutering

We try and keep the cost for spay/neuter at a minimum. That said, when it comes to quality, we do not skimp.

All of our spay/neuter procedures are preceded by a complete physical examination.
During the anesthesia, a veterinary technician continually assesses your pet’s vital signs including patient temperature, heart rate, blood oxygen saturation (SPO2), electrocardiogram, respiratory rate, end CO2, and blood pressure.

Also, pain management is never compromised. Each patient is given pre and post operative pain medication to ensure the highest standard of care.
